Should a Catholic Take the Covid Vaccine Out of Love for Neighbor?

    March 28, 2021 /

I see a strange trend going around social media as of late — one in which a relatively young person posts a picture of their covid vaccine completion certificate — with strange virtue-signaling tagline attached — something along the lines of, “I’m doing this for love of my neighbor”. (Author’s note: At time of writing, the vaccine is limited in availability and being offered to medical professionals and the vulnerable.) It is concerning to me when I see posts like these trending on social media because often they seem to be implying some sort of higher moral ground to a decision which basically comes down to a medical choice that…

    Go to St. Joseph

    March 19, 2021 /

Today is a big day — the Solemnity of St. Joseph — which is basically one of our biggest feast days of the year. It’s such a big day, that all of our Lenten fasts are dispensed of in order to truly celebrate the gift that St. Joseph is to our Church. Did you know that St. Joseph is recognized as the Universal patron of the Catholic Church? After the Triune God and Mary, he is our greatest supporter, our greatest champion and protector against evil. The list of his given titles are quite enlightening, and they give us little glimpses into the type of Saint that Joseph was. When…

    The Importance of Community

    March 12, 2021 /

Today I head off to spend time with friends from College. It’s been about 3 years since our last reunion, and a lot has happened since that time. I mean, basically the world came to a screeching halt — and these women were some of the voices that kept me hopeful, kept me laughing and reminded me just how important friendship is in our lives. Maybe this last year has taught you that, too. I hope that it has, because we were not meant to do this life on our own. We were meant to be part of a family, and beyond that, we were meant to be part of…

Why You Need to Get to Know Joan of Arc

    March 5, 2021 /

I have a long history with Joan of Arc — one that goes all the way back to my 8th grade confirmation and choosing her for my patron Saint. Funny story: I almost didn’t choose her, based solely on her name. I had secretly preferred the name “Lauren” to my own for most of my early life, and so I actually contemplated choosing St. Lawrence and requesting to shorten the name to “Lauren” so that my lifelong dream of being named Lauren could finally come true! Seriously, kids are so funny! Turns out, I really do like St. Lawrence and his final words “this side is done, you can turn…
