Apparently, I’m HUGE in Lithuania
Hey guys!
I had planned to write about our Anniversary and bringing our kids back to the spot where John proposed in Glendalough, Ireland — but alas all of that will have to wait because of a little bit of housekeeping.
E-mail list housekeeping, that is.
It all started last month when I began receiving copious amounts of sign-ups for my e-mail list. At first I was left to wonder which thought-provoking post had led to all these signups?!
Then I noticed an unusual repetition of certain names from the same server which I linked back to the Lithuanian government.
Guys, Apparently, I’m HUGE in Lithuania. Who knew?
Or so it would seem, as all of the major players in Lithuania’s government had signed up for my e-mail list.
There was a part of me that was flattered — but the more realistic side of me started to wonder if a Russian bot wasn’t somehow trying affect the elections through my blog.
I mean, come on. it’s possible my blog could be wildly influential on a global scale, right?
Okay, maybe not.
Anywho, it has left me to conclude that for some reason the spam- generators have discovered me.
Which also means I’m likely not huge in Lithuania. Sad day.
But if, by some chance, I really am being followed by all the heads of state of Lithuania — welcome! Or as they say In Lithuanian, Sveiki!
I regret to inform you, though, that all heads of state will have to sign up one more time and then confirm your address in the confirmation email that will be sent to you.
My niece directed me to a site to clean the e-mail list, and indeed, most of the e-mails were valid.
Which then led me down the rabbit hole of research and changing my sign up requirements so that I could ensure those who sign up really want to receive my emails.
Which is why I couldn’t write my other post this week. Thank you, Russian bots. :(. Hey, you can always read last weeks post, if you haven’t read that, yet.
So what this means for everybody else is that if you signed up for my email list anytime this October or beyond, I will sadly be deleting your email and you will have to sign up again and confirm your email with the confirmation email sent to you.
I am sincerely sorry for any inconvenience!
Perhaps this is a good time to ask everybody who enjoys my posts, even a little bit, to please sign up for the e-mail list.
Stop whatever you are doing and sign up right now!
I promise I will not fill your inbox with SPAM — ain’t nobody got time for that!
Just fill in your name — please put at least a first name, not your email — and your e-mail and then confirm your e-mail address on the confirmation e-mail that will be sent to you immediately afterwards.
That confirming your e-mail is important!
So check your spam if you don’t get a confirmation e-mail shortly after sign up. I will be deleting all e-mails that aren’t confirmed in three days time.
Then, be prepared for a short e-mail on a weekly basis with a quick link to the new post. What could be easier?!
I might even occasionally get around to sending off a newsletter once or twice a year that only my e-mail list will ever see.
It will be top secret content for the e-mail list only. I know, I know, try to contain your excitement!
And to any spammers who signed up before October — congrats you made it under the radar. 🙁
I will give you a chance to do the right thing and unsubscribe.
If not, I will refer you to my friend Liam, who has a special message for you…
Yeah, what he said.
Or at the very least, please just redirect your SPAM over to our friends at Monsanto and you can feel as if you’ve done something good with all that SPAM.
Thank you to any Lithuanians who actually signed up. Or as they say in Lithuanian, Ačiū!
And thank you to everybody who reads and comments on this blog. I do sincerely mean that!
I will keep trying to write posts that you all enjoy reading.
I will also keep doing my part to fight Russian bots and ensure that the elections will, indeed, go on without malicious intervention — at least on this little space in the internet.
Thanks for your understanding!
Sincerely
Moira & the Modern Catholic Mom Blog Crew — a.k.a “dat me”.

Haha and ouch. Spammers and trolls and viruses, oh my! I was rather curious about this post because my sister’s fiance is first generation American by way of Lithuania. They will honeymoon in Lithuania. I don’t know much about that bitty country yet.

Maria,
I didn’t know much about Lithuania either, but I will say after reading up on the Lithuanian government, I’m quite impressed with the Christian party. That’s what they call themselves — they’d get my vote. 😊
