    Speak the Truth in Love

    October 16, 2020 /

You know, sometimes we can allow our  fear of “offending” somebody get in the way of saying the very thing that we know will set them free. Why is that? If we’re being honest, sometimes it’s because we would rather be liked by somebody than to say that difficult thing that NEEDS to be said. Other times, we genuinely fear hurting somebody’s feelings so much so, that we remain silent — even though, deep down, we know they DESERVE the truth that will set them free. The third option, which is the least attractive, is that we simply don’t care about the souls of the people around us. I’m willing…

Apparently, My Catholic Blog Was Banned From Facebook and Instagram

    April 17, 2020 /

Hey guys, as some of you may know, the powers that be banned my Catholic blog from Facebook and Instagram. As you also may know, almost all of my activity was banned from Instagram unless I removed the link to this blog. So the other day, I had to ask myself, do I dig in and continue to fight — or do I give up? And believe me, I’m a fighter by nature. Just ask my inner circle — they could tell you some stories — and Joan of Arc is my patron Saint for Heaven’s sake. Do I think it’s unfair that I was given no explanation for why…

    The Commencement Speech

    May 17, 2019 /

Well, it’s that time of year — young men and women, across the nation, donning cap and gown, processing down an aisle, listening to speech or two and then they are off to begin their new lives. So this week’s post is a commencement speech of sorts — one that I dedicate to my own daughter and the class of 2019. Without further ado, here we go… Let us begin at the beginning — your beginning. From the beginning, you were greatly loved. Despite any of the challenges that may have faced your parents, you were loved by them, and without a doubt, you were perfectly loved by God. You…

Fun Fact: Sometimes John and I Fight a Lot

    April 13, 2018 /

When I decided to begin a blog, one of the goals was to be honest about my life — not because anybody would necessary care about my life — but because I think it’s nice to know you are not alone. It’s nice to know that other people struggle like you do.  Not nice like, “Hah! So happy she’s actually miserable”, but more like, “Wow, we all have our struggles, and if she can overcome them — then so can I”. That’s the kind of nice I was hoping to bring to the blogosphere. Sometimes, people will look at me and think I have things together because I can write…

Children Waiting Everywhere: Living Simply So Others Might Simply Live

    March 7, 2017 /

There was a recent in-depth study on giving, and it found that those who give to others are actually much happier than those who just spend money on themselves. Of course, we shouldn’t give to others in order to be “happy” — but there’s no denying that one of the “side-effects” of generosity is happiness. The truth is, when we live according to how we’ve been created — we experience greater happiness — and this study supports what Christians have known for centuries: we were created to give ourselves to others. This call to generosity is clearly conveyed by Jesus in Matthew 25.  It is a call to conversion — to cut unhealthy ties to…
