Thirsting For Lent
Whether or not we know it, we are all thirsting for Christ. Even more amazing is that — despite our sinfulness or brokenness — Christ is thirsting for us, too. This photo below was taken in 2016 at the Canonization of Mother Teresa. I guess you could say she’s one of my heroes. Perhaps more than anybody else in recent years, Mother Teresa recognized that thirst in all of us. She recognized it, because she felt it more keenly than most. Why pray? It’s a great question, and I think the answer lies in understanding what exactly prayer is. There is so much that has been said about prayer — I certainly can’t sum it all up in one post — but perhaps a simple image can help us reach the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the essence of prayer. Clutter, Clutter, Clutter
This past weekend we participated in a beautiful Corpus Christi presentation. It was a lovely, prayerful procession — a great reminder of Christ’s promise that He would be with us always, until the end of the world. He was with us — and it was beautiful. It reminded me of the beauty of our faith. All the “smells and bells” of Catholicism, the procession, the people, the church building itself — they’re incredibly important. God made the physical world good, and He has redeemed it through His presence. This is especially true in the Eucharist: simple bread and wine become the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of God.
