Fear is Useless; What is Needed is Trust

Today is the day I have to get all our financials together for our accountant. It’s honestly my least favorite thing about having a family business — but at least, it’s Lent and this is the perfect time of year to have to deal with it.

So no post today, but I did want to encourage all of you who find yourself afraid of all the talk about Corona Virus to take a step away from all the news for a while.

Instead, immerse yourself in the Word. The title of this post is taken from one of the translations of Luke 8:50:

“Fear is Useless. What is needed is trust.”

Luke 8:50

I’ve also seen it translated as:

“Do not fear, only believe, and she will be well”.

Either way, these are words we should be focused on if we are feeling overwhelmed by the headlines.

By the way, for those of you who find yourselves paralyzed with fear, just focus on the facts. It always helps me.

The fact is, 97% of all reported cases end up in a full recovery — and that’s reported cases so the odds are many more unreported cases are out there because the symptoms were so insignificant.

Most of those deaths are the elderly or immune compromised. There are zero deaths in young children so far (please God, that statistic will remain).

But we should wash our hands to look out for the elderly and weak who could have a severe reaction to a virus that won’t likely hurt most of us.

So think about vulnerable around you if you are sick and avoid leaving your homes.

In the words of Padre Pio, “Pray, hope, and don’t worry” and I would add “And wash your hands”.

That’s it. I gotta run!

Experts on virus transmission say that washing hands and keeping one’s fingers out of one’s nose can significantly reduce the risk of catching virus. Also, boost immune response now with increased intake of vitamin D and C. Also zinc (but only about 10-12 mg daily). Last of all, store up basic comfort necessities (like toilet paper) and basic food items (peanut butter, etc) that can supply your household if there is need to avoid public places. I am ready for the plague! No need to panic – I am prepared! My theme song is “I Will Get Buy, I Will Survive…”

“I Will Get Buy” – Please someone show me how to use spell checkers on this computer!
    “I Will Get BY” – that’s right – I am a stellar speller!
