Why We Call It Good Friday

Oh, what wondrous love is this — God made Man so that He could die for us and save us from our sins! NO GREATER LOVE!

And this is why we call that dark and awful day — almost 2,000 years ago — “Good”. God made it good.

He took what was horrific and brutal and unjust — and He transformed it into the possibility of new life for all of us.

But there is one catch — we need to accept the grace of that Good Friday and allow it to change us. We need to turn from our sinful ways and begin again.

Don’t let this day — Good Friday — be like any other day.

Read John 18-19:42. Pray over it. Thank Jesus for His sacrifices. Don’t let them be in vain!

The truth is that there is so much darkness in the world, and many of us who claim to be Christians are not really fighting against it. We aren’t really allowing ourselves to become “other Christs” in the world.

I mean, are we the Body of Christ or aren’t we?

What if this Good Friday was different than the rest? What if you and I decided to dig deep and examine our own lives, and what if we begged Jesus to help us to change?

Because I have to be honest, I struggle with witnessing the sinfulness and cowardice of some members of my own Church — especially in Church leadership — but sometimes I have allowed that anger (justified or not) to distract me from doing what I CAN DO.

Complaining about the awful priests and bishops who have disappointed us is not going to change them — but it might change us, and for the worse!

So, I am going to try to put my eyes back on Christ.

I am going to keep praying for our Church and remain grateful for the many amazing priests, bishops and cardinals throughout the world.

I’m going to try to allow the grace of the cross to make me the saint that God created me to be — and I hope that you will, too!

Let’s allow His grace to make us the Saints that this world desperately needs right now. Let’s say “yes”!

A blessed Good Friday to you!

By His stripes we are healed.
